Description: Stepping into the reception area, i feel a surge of shame and helplessness. once a top executive, now i’m here, punished—my arms amputated at the shoulders, one eye gone. i wear a conservative blouse with empty sleeves hanging beside me, my face partially covered by a plaster, painfully aware of every stare. people look at me, seeing only what’s missing. when the postman arrives, i awkwardly take the letter with my teeth, struggling to place it on the table. he demands a signature, and i’m caused to scrawl my name with my mouth, embarrassment flooding over me. then a visitor asks for directions. without arms, guiding him is clumsy, leaving me exhausted and painfully vulnerable. finally, i return to my seat, realizing this is my life now—exposed, helpless, stripped of everything i once had.
