Description: Another one-shoe adventure for spy jade. jade bolts from a building, racing up the sidewalk with a data stick full of stolen intelligence. her heels clack loudly against the pavement as she runs—until she realizes two pursuers are closing in. she ducks into a side alley and glances back. no one. then—she stumbles hard, dropping suddenly with a sharp yelp of surprise. the stiletto heel of her left shoe is wedged deep in a sewer grate. she pulls. nothing. squatting, she grips her foot and tries to wrench it free, but it won’t budge. moments later, her pursuers reach the alley entrance and spot her struggling. it’s the shoe or her life. with a look of frustration, jade abandons it. she hobbles away, gimping and now down to one shoe. turning into a nearby building, she searches for an exit, her uneven steps echoing as she moves—click, pad, click—occasionally stopping to grab her bare foot as it grows cold and sore. at one point, as she steps over stacked boxes, a pursuer lunges and grabs her exposed foot. jade cries out, but her slippery nylon lets her twist free after a brief struggle. she keeps moving. in the end, jade evades them and makes it back to the main street, where a dark car pulls up. her partner is waiting. she jumps in and slams the door. “yeah, i lost another damned shoe—just drive!” the car speeds off, and jade once again completes the mission—one shoe short.
