Title: Chipped my molar eating a frozen chocolate chunk cookie and now I have to deal with $550 USD in dental bills (July 22 2025)
Description: Right now i’m having to plan for around $550 usd in dental bills. this really truly sucks. i want to get the root canal done in september ideally. i don’t want too much time to elapse! i’ve already filled my medications from the dentist but i have not started them yet-they are currently sitting in my dresser! my plan is to start the medication closer to the date of my root canal. and yes i have insurance that is supposedly covering 100% but the dr said even with that coverage rate i still will have a bill of 550 usd. in actuality the insurance is covering something like $1450 of an over $2k bill- not bad but not what i call 100% lol. and fyi i pay them $2900 a year for this coverage lol. the insurance company is otherwise alright- i’ve just never had a partial coverage issue like this before! i get meds filled on a regular basis and i’ve never had to pay (i need around $4k of meds a year). right now the molar in question has a small buccal fistula. it has gotten a lot better frankly and isn’t swollen or painful. when i chipped the tooth back two months ago there was a bit of an infection in the gum line, but i kept rinsing with peroxide and it went away. i decided to go to a dentist and get it checked out for an estimate as i was aware my insurance would not cover the full cost of the procedure (i looked into it myself beforehand as i heard other ppl who have the same policy as me comment extensively on this topic). my dentist had a look, confirmed everything for me, prescribed me meds for the chipped tooth and referred me to an endodontist. i then went and saw the endodontist and he took x-rays, gave me an official quote and discussed insurance coverage with me. i informed him that i was well aware of a potential bill for this procedure so it didn’t come as a shock to me, infact i was expecting it to be in the same ball park as his quote. i’ve been in a few discussions with other people who have the same policy coverage as me and needed emergency dental work.  i am turning 40 in september and this will be my very first root canal! wish me luck!
