The boss heard me at my lowest HD

Description:   i was sitting in the bathroom, pressed against the toilet by a sudden, painful stomach upset. my body had completely rebelled. it was late morning, and i was supposed to be in the conference room already, prepared for one of the most important meetings of my career — a tender negotiation with international clients that both my boss and i had worked hard to secure.   with effort, i took out my phone and called my friend, who also happened to be my manager. i told her what was happening and asked her to let everyone know i wouldn’t be able to make it. she agreed and even offered to send me photos and updates from the meeting so i could still contribute remotely by making a few decisions and giving feedback. i tried to focus despite the physical discomfort, reviewing presentations, visuals, and key talking points.   unfortunately, everything fell apart when my boss called. i picked up without thinking, almost instinctively. and then something happened that i’ll never forget — he heard everything. the sounds, uncontrollable in a situation like that, came through the speaker loud and clear. he went silent for a moment, and i felt myself sink. i tried to apologize, to explain that it was sudden and that i had truly done everything i could to still be part of the meeting.   i felt ashamed, helpless, and overwhelmed. i knew this situation could have serious consequences for me professionally. and there was absolutely nothing i could do.
